How to fix Error code 8024402c?
Reason 1:
The first reason for this error is the loss of internet connection. If you had lost your internet connection, while updating, you will get this error.
Solution :
Make sure you have reconnected your PC with the internet, and just click on “Try Again” in the same window. Your update will continue, from where it stopped. If it is not solved your issue, move to the next step.
Reason 2:
The second reason for this error is, any one of the programs might stop Windows update accessing the internet. One of the below programs might cause this issue.
- Firewall
- Anti-spyware software
- Web accelerators
- Internet security or Antivirus programs
- Proxy servers.
Solution :
You must disable the Windows firewall. Disable antivirus program if you had. If you had any other programs mentioned above, please disable them. Try updating your Windows. It must update your Windows.
In my case, I have disabled the windows firewall and Antivirus program. I did one more thing. I went to the folder
C: /windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download
Deleted everything in the download folder from the above-mentioned path. Here “C” drive is where my OS stays. You may select other drives if your OS is in another drive.
You can also do the same thing. Deleting content from this download folder will not cause any damage to your system. If you are not able to delete content from this folder, you may run Windows in safe mode. Then you can delete it easily.
Conclusion

Solving error 8024402c for Windows Update
So far, many times I’ve found this strange error in Windows Update center stating that “Windows could not search for new updates”.
The reason is that your pc is configured to access a WSUS Server that, for some reasons, isn’t accessible.
First question is: what is WSUS (Windows Server Update Services)?
WSUS or Windows Server Update Services is a free patch management tool available to Windows Server administrators allowing them to authorize, publish and distribute updates within a network (most of the times inside a domain).
Anyway, second (and most important) question is: how I can solve that error?
It’s quite simple, following this procedure:
1. Open registry editor (Start menu –> Run –> regedit)
2. Find the following path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
3. Change the value of the UseWUServer from 1 to 0 (double click on it, change the value and click OK)
4. Restart Windows Update service (Start menu –> Run –> services.msc, find the Windows Update service and click on Restart)
That’s all. Now you can download updates again.
I have tried all the published solutions but sadly nothing worked with me, I was running windows update and it reach to 30% of it, then the internet connection was cut down and the update stopped and when I retried to install the update it gave the Error Code 8024402c. and when I tried to run Chrome and Firefox they do not launched to the internet while it is seem that the wi-fi sign is normally connected..

while trying to resolve this problem i gone for /windows update /installed updates / but KB971033 is not available intead another code is availble. how can I resove this problem without changing my OS.

If you have original OS, you should not follow this procedure. You can restore system to back date or You can repair OS with your original CD.
